With the Howard government convincingly cast out (and no Liberal - read 'conservative' or 'neo-conservative' - Party in office in any state or territory across the continent!) this is a crucial time to undo the damage wrought by more than a decade of solid environmental ignorance...

Seeing this image will have more meaning taken in context of the series I am uploading at this time. I often go out at dawn in Phoenix, for the light is incredible and magical. This composition shows the top of a walkway across Highway 51 in central Phoenix. That this morning showed an overcast sky with a few brilliant blue contrasts amid the clouds made the image more powerful for me. The contrast of this brilliant yellow structure with the blue of the sky made the image memorable. I treasure these forays into "Phoenix Other Worlds" as a way to view this urban area in a far different light than one thinks of when pondering "What is Phoenix?"

Last night after a long day of shooting I decided to stop at my local coffee shop and have a nice Americano to before heading to the office to upload my days work. As I enjoyed my coffee the light took on a wonderful rose cast as the sun started setting. I had to pull out my gear an take a couple of photos to try & capture the moment.

Light Test

Every time I come back from a studio shoot with models, I upload images into Lightroom, and then go through and rate them (stars).

I can then go through and sort by rating and pick which ones to adjust further, and then export and process in Photoshop - that's the workflow.

As I run across amusing (to me) light tests, prior to any adjustments, I upload them here.

Here's the first light test from my new D700.

I'm not entirely sure the model's name - this is straight off the card, with whatever Lightroom defaults to.

Darcy and I were mulling through some photo-books at a Chapters downtown today when Patricia over-heard the conversation and introduced herself to us. A photographer herself, we talked a while about the craft and managed to snap a few pictures before staff instructed us to put the cameras away. She was looking for a photography community and knowing the great atmosphere here in the Ottawa group, we encouraged her to join. Perhaps she will become the latest enthusiast to join the leagues! :)

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio's Capitol building in Columbus will be a place for making laws and making drinks.

The Columbus Dispatch reports the Ohio Statehouse's first full-service bar will open next month within an existing café. The bar on the building's lower level will sell beer, wine and liquor.

The Ohio agency that oversees the Statehouse says the bar will have flat-screen televisions and will be open to the public at certain times. It also will host special events and what are described as "private happy hours."

One thing it won't allow: guns.

A new Ohio law permits some concealed weapons to be carried into bars and other places where alcohol is served. But the public is prohibited from taking firearms into the Statehouse.

I debated uploading this image, mainly because I like the idea but not the execution. I want to retry it and do better, but I decided to upload this one because it is my D50's "shutter actuation birthday". It turned 10,000 this past weekend!

Shot with the 35-70 (which may be replaced very soon) w/ extension tubes under direct sunlight. The image in the water drop is the back of my house (well, part of it). Also had to do a bit of cloning to remove a very out-of-place leaf, but I'll leave you all to guess where it was done.

Must be viewed large in order to appreciate the detail inside the water drop!

ICE cold stitch

I've never used a stitching tool before -- today when I was in the cathedral in Wiener Neustadt I thought I'd take some wild shots and try to stitch them at home. So all of the base shots were taken without tripod. The PSE stitching didn't work with this load -- then I remembered reading something about a MicroSoft tool that could do 3D stitching. It's called ICE (Image Composite Editor) -- and it worked. Next time I'll try to take the base shots with a bit more "thinking" and try it again...

btw.: I've uploaded full size -- if anybody wants to have a look in detail...
and: I didn't smooth over the stitching edges -- but those can only been seen in the largest size...

forgot to mention: this is based on about 30 shots I took slowly walking backwards pointing the camera in all directions -- so I guess the outcome is really ok.

I'm trying to create a set of pix that print well - but in a few instances, due to bad admin (forgetting to use tags, not placing pix in sets), I am unable to find the pix on my stream, only on my hard drive. I am going to re-upload those pix I have misplaced.... Apologies if you have seen these before.

Apologies also to those whose textures I have used, but info on the texture is with the original - which I can't find. The seagulls were also from elsewhere. I suspect they were a starter image. I'm sorry about the lack of crediting.

Taken for World Pinhole Photography Day 24th April 2011 on the Holga 120 WPC. This is a plastic panoramic pinhole camera with an F -stop of approx 155. You get six images from a 120 roll of film. Hey everybody! After a long time I am back uploading some photograph. Why was I somewhere else? Well check out the news:

Preps for a Training DVD
Over the last month til today I have been preparing stuff for DVD I am gonna revord with the team of Video2Brain. So I will be in Austria for 2 weeks since June 27th. In the DVD I will teach about photography basics (but I don't know when it will come out).

Shooting People
In the last half year I concentrated much about shooting people. That means weddings, , my little girl Enna and Friends - and I made some significant progress in it. Landscapes hat to wait ;) And of course I am always busy with my blog about learning photography. .

Question Of Style
I had the plan of only uploading images in format of 6x6 (1x1) and mostly in b/w but after trying it out on every image I shot I am shure I will not do this forever. It is a good way to enhance some images but not EVERYone. Right now I feel alot more: Freedom.

So that's much news, isn't it? Cheers!
