Sorry for the late post, I had an essay due and that took precedence.
I'm borrowing an idea from Christene, extending it a bit. I widened the pleats, and turned the center into a sunken point instead of a spread one. Hopefully more on this theme later...
By the way, some of you will remember Daniel's Pentagonal grid.... This piece was made with a similar idea, parsed onto the octagon. It doesn't work out as well-- the more sides to the polygon, the more reference points you'll end up with-- but it's a useful method of finding creases that I'd otherwise have to approximate, which would be messy.

Due to the low river level, the fossil beds were clearly visible at the Falls of the Ohio State Park. To get an idea of how vast this area is, people can be seen standing near the center of the photo on the rocky bank as it sticks out into the Ohio River.

i thiiink this would be a nice shot in like a sunset time of day, but it was actually around 1230am instead (it's nice to have friends who will not only suggest but are also extremely enthusiastic about doing photo stuff in the middle of the night ), but i have an idea similiar to it that i may do later! :)

this is a vintage 1950s camera sent to me by my friend Diane. Its a square format Kodak brownie hawkeye camera, and I have, in my own style, made a 35 mm film adapter for it. the camera is totally manual, with a fixed meniscus lens. One has to instinctively wind the film. Since it doesn't have anything to rewind the film, I have to unload it in my room at 2 AM sans any lights!!
I realised I was winding it a bit too much, and wasting a lot of film, when I came across Chet4's technique... tried it out today morning... it works...! Thanks Diane and Chet! I am forever indebted to you for your cameras and fantastic Ideas!

Quoting Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum | Aichi M6A1 Seiran (Clear Sky Storm):
Aichi chief engineer, Toshio Ozaki, designed the M6A1 Seiran to fulfill the requirement for a bomber that could operate exclusively from a submarine. Japanese war planners devised the idea as a means for striking directly at the United States mainland and other important strategic targets, like the Panama Canal, that lay thousands of kilometers from Japan. To support Seiran operations, the Japanese developed a fleet of submarine aircraft carriers to bring the aircraft within striking distance. No Seiran ever saw combat, but the Seiran/submarine weapons system represents an ingenious blend of aviation and marine technology.
This M6A1 was the last airframe built (serial number 28) and the only surviving example of the Seiran in the world. Imperial Japanese Navy Lt. Kazuo Akatsuka ferried this Seiran from Fukuyama to Yokosuka where he surrendered it to an American occupation contingent.

365 Days - Day 60 - Work in Progress

I bought a cheap free-standing mirror today. I've wanted one for ages, for the theatre. We're a bit nomadic and our 'dressing rooms' are often classrooms, or sometimes just empty rooms in abandoned buildings (I kid you not!), and I'm getting fed up with using a hand-held mirror to put my slap on.
I didn't want it to be boring so thought I could paint it. Made a start this evening and Flickred in between colours, though acrylics dry really quickly. I haven't 'made' anything for ages so this has been quite fun. :-)
The next stage will be to paint little pictures in each of the 40 squares. I've got a few ideas but do feel free to add notes to squares with suggestions. Remember, I'm not that good at painting pictures so they will have to be something simple!

I was at the astoundingly massive San Jose MLK library last weekend doing some research and looking at the various thesis publications on the shelves. It was interesting looking at SJSU master's thesis books that were printed 50 years ago. This was back when San Jose was known agriculturally as "The valley of the heart's delight" long before it became "Silicon Valley".
Once I found the CompSci and EE sections, I started scanning book titles. I did not recognize the word used in this book's title, so I pulled it out to investigate. I was quite surprised to find that 7/8ths of the pages were chopped out to make room for a square pocket on the back cover. Oh dear, that's not what I think that is, is it?!?! Reading the introduction on the book's few pages revealed the author simply stating "Please insert this disk into your computer and you can read all of the project research via hypertext linked documents." +10 points on using an open non-proprietary documentation standard, however epic fail due to data rot.
So, a show of hands, how many of you remember these cursed zip disks. I'd be especially curious to know if anyone still has functional hardware (used in the past year or two) that could actually read this media?
It's sad that I was able to read with ease thesis books 50 years old, but a thesis that's just over 10 years old is completely unreadable… [shrug and shake head]

My first published magazine cover! Haha!
It's a complimentary magazine for brides-to-be in the Indianapolis area. The publisher was a coordinator for a wedding I shot and asked for a photo in this style showing off her whole dress (and shoes).
This shot was a tight crop and not exactly optimized for a magazine cover, hence the border they added. But I think it works, bring out her blue shoes.

I had thought about doing this one several months ago, but never got around to it. By the time I did get around to thinking about it again I didn't have any light bulbs (which is why I did White Light the other day). I made sure to pick up some bulbs when I was at the grocery store tonight. I turned out better than I thought it would. Getting the three separate images to line up while I was shooting was a bit of a chore and I took about 80 shots just to get three good ones to fit together into this image.

yet another "beer-induced, dumb, redneck trick" photo! indeed, they are being dragged behind a truck, sitting on part of a car hood, going at least 30 mph. (no, i didn't do this, i know my limits!).
check out the first "stupid redneck tricks" photo i posted. that was redneck skiing.. this is more like... hmmm, redneck iditarod? :)
