Moo Cards & Stitch Markers (knitting)

I exchanged Moo Cards today with a few of my knitting friends! As a small early Christmas gift, I attached handmade beaded place/stitch-markers to the cards. You use these markers to find or select certain stitches when working a pattern.

Season's Greetings 2007
photo christmas card

A year ago, I did a silly season's greeting card in LA. Well, Helsinki is far less colorful and extreme than LA, but you can do a silly postcard also in Helsinki using similar style. Of course, Helsinki is also very European in imagination, as this card shows. Surprisingly little Disney can be found on the streets. - The LA card is here: www.flickr.com/photos/ikkoskinen/331465093/. Check also this movie (10 MB, QuickTime): www2.uiah.fi/~ikoskine/photos/movies/indexFrameset.html > Sights... Europe > Happy holidays from Helsinki.

20081224 - Christmas Eve at Britt & Chris's - 174-7448 - Britt - year- 2007 duh! - christmas tree

Clint found a rogue present from the year before, so he decided to give it to Britt this year. He had no idea what it was, so it was a surprise for us too. Turns out, it was a gift card. And Clint had filled in the blanks, and for the year, he put, "2007, duh!" How fitting then that the year was actually 2008 when Britt opened the present. Double duh!

Why did you roll your dice, show your cards
photo christmas card
Look at me actually doing an upload two days in a row! As busy as I am I want to try to keep uploading even if they arent super good photos.... well I have some exciting news. I waaas going to start saving for a new camera (Canon 60D) beginning with the 0 I just put in my savings but instead I am using that towards a flight to LAS VEGAS TO SEE BRANDON FLOWERS. Much thanks goes to Mackie though, one of my old Green Day friends who goes to school there and is letting me stay with her and coming with me to the show. If she wasnt there I probably wouldnt be going.

Yeah yeah judge me, but to me travel is such an important thing in my life. Nothing compares to the feeling of seeing a new city for the first time live in person, feeling the different vibes and comparing it to your own home. As much as I want a new camera, that will always be there and I figure that Las Vegas is a city I'd like to see eventually, so why not go when one of my favorite artists is going to be playing (a hometown) show! This was an impulse decision and I just bought the concert tickets (plane tickets are to come next week when I get paid) but I have the same excited feeling as I did when I bought my Green Day San Francisco tickets. I love to travel. Especially when its to see great friends and music.
57 days til Las Vegas! :D

Random fact of the day is obviously:
I LOVE TO TRAVEL. Always will, I will never stop. Whether it's monthly roadtrips to Dutchess county, spantaneous trips to Boston or other northeastern cities or annual trips to Florida to see my cousin or random spur of the moment decisions like this one, I love it. It keeps my life exciting and gives me new places to see and new experiences and nothing compares to that feeling of seeing new places.

This vintage Christmas greeting card illustration (circa 1910) was scanned from my personal collection and the color restored (digitally remastered). I also retouched it to remove scratches, cracks, smudges and age spots. This is typically about a 3 hour process.

Merry Holidays
photo christmas card

I'm going on vacation (photo trip) to Northern California for the week, and posting images of the amazing northern pacific coast. I'll also be stopping off in Petaluma one day for a visit to the Twit Cottage with Leo Laporte (The Tech Guy), and hoping to get some images of that meeting on here as well. I absolutely love road trips and the abilty to stop and take pictures if something inspires me along the way. I've been feeling a little blah about my photos lately; same old places, so getting away to fresh, new environments may be the kick I need. ;-)

20091224 - GEDC1231 - Gnostica slaughter
photo christmas card
Image by Rev. Xanatos Satanicos Bombasticos (ClintJCL)
Carolyn & Clint played a game of Gnostica to pass the time while Britt, Chris, Grandma, and Becky went to church. Way to make everyone else wait. Drive 2 hours, wait for people who are late, and then when everyone is finally there, half of them leave and make everyone wait another 1.5 hrs. Ugh. We didn't finish opening presents until like 1AM or something!

Anyway, during our wait, we played Gnostica, and I totally kicked Carolyn's ass -- rather quickly, even. She (purple) only has 3 purple pieces left -- a 2-pip and a 1-pip, for 4 total pips. And only 5 points. Plus, her largest piece is in the wasteland, facing to the side. Her closest piece to me is facing the completely wrong way, and is targeted by my red piece on the 9 Of Swords (how fitting!).

Meanwhile, I've got 9 (red) pieces out (17 pips total), all sitting on 13 points of territory. Plus, I'm pretty well defended, with most of my guys facing west, towards Carolyn's "onslaught". With only 9 points required to win, I called it, and won.

Gnostica is unique in that you don't win by achieving your goal, but by calling it and holding it for an additional turn. So though you need 9 points to win, you really want more than 9 before calling it.
