Obscurae Gallery's 2nd Annual Art Lottery

This Saturday is Obscurae Gallery's 2nd annual Art Lottery. Trust me, this will be a blast. Not only is there going to be great art in handmade frames. No. That wouldn't be enough. What about this being a show that is in support of a good cause, supporting Braddock?

No? Then there's more.

There's also going to be Jake Liefer of the Pittsburgh Area Coffee Association, setting up a coffee bar at the event. John Ryan Brubaker will be there with a traveling version of his Portrait Booth Project where you can travel back in time with your very own quirky portrait shot with a 1968 Polaroid on instant black and white film. Beer has been donated by Brillobox. (Yeah!) Add some wood-fired sweet and savory treats baked by local enthusiasts in the community oven, and this might be the best gallery show ever.

So, let's go down the list one last time. Amazing photography. Good beer. Time Traveling Photo Booths.

I rest my case.

The Silence of Maria, 2010

God's Enigmatic Silence.

Sometimes you want to shout so badly.
You want a reply, a shout to match your own.
Not from anyone, but from God himself, the Creator.
We want Him to offer us a hand.
He keeps His enigmatic silence.
And then the fear creeps in.
You can defeat the fear by practicing the same enigmatic silence, the silence of God.
Silent people are Godlike.
They are often accused of the sin of pride.
Even more often they get institutionalized in various sorts of hospitals.

"The Silence of Maria" is a series of 9 works based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew. (2:14-15, The Flight To Egypt)
