My passport is due to run out in a few months time so I've applied for another one - not cheap. £5 for the photos, £72.50 for the passport (which lasts ten years) and £8.75 to the Post Office to check that I've filled the form in properly. I need not have paid that as I made no mistakes - but one never knows.

Jeremy Clarkson, on UK tv the other day said, "The reason you're not allowed to smile in passport photos is so that the immigration staff will recognise you after you've been queuing for several hours at the airport."
