6243. Seen, we think, from the upper deck of a cruiser, this photo is reproduced with the purpose of furthering the discussion going on under Entry 6240 concerning the mystery submarine[s] or objects in that photo three entries back. One suggestion has been that the utterly unknown structure[s] are a WWI ruse intended to deceive - which would be, of course, and intention to deceive any unfriendly eye observing the ships and boats at Garden Island.

On that point, we observe the canvas structure aft of the conning tower here, and what looks like a wooden beam projecting from the centre of it. Could the purpose have been to create the impression that the RAN's two E class boats carried a deck gun [which they didn't] ?

Also, what is the framed structure seen on the water beside the submarine on the other side , and does that have a connection with the boat-like structure shown in the foreground of Pic 6240? Our imaginations are heightened.

Film back : Polaroid Land Pack Film Holder to medium format type pack film (from my Polaroid 600 SE set)
Viewfinder : Door peeping (from OBI store) calibrated to the Polaroid pack film size
Shutter and Pinhole holder is a "pu(s)h" from Dr. Kai Fuhrmann
with filter thread for series 9 and 4 1/2 size tiffen filters (homemade).
