I think the fire fighters in the old days must have used their free time to build these artistic wooden frames to decorate their walls and home away from home fire house.

This is my office at Jordanhill. I am not an organised person at the best of times but this is extraordinarily messy - even for me! Normally I use an archaeological method of organisation - i.e. if I got it two weeks ago it will be about 2 centimetres down in a particular pile. However just before Christmas I lost the place a bit and now I am finding it hard to find anything! I need to do some serious throwing out. :-)

This picture was taken in response to a challenge from Ewan McIntosh. He asked edublogers to take a picture of where they blog and send it to a new edublogoffices pool.

So here is my effort. For the record, my name is David Muir and my blog is EdCompBlog.

What do you think? Tidier or messier than John's?

Fermi National Laboratory 114

A few nice search by image images I found:

Fermi National Laboratory 114

Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab ), located in Batavia near Chicago, Illinois, is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory specializing in high-energy particle physics. As of January 1, 2007, Fermilab is operated by Fermi Research Alliance, LLC, a joint venture of the University of Chicago and the Universities Research Association (URA). URA is a consortium of 91 leading research oriented universities primarily in the United States, with members also in Canada, Japan, and Italy. Fermilab is a part of the Illinois Technology and Research Corridor.

Fermilab's Tevatron is a landmark particle accelerator; at 6.28 kilometers (4 miles) in circumference, it is the world's second highest energy particle accelerator (LHC is 27 kilometres in circumference). In 1995, both the CDF and D0 (detectors which utilize the Tevatron) experiments announced the discovery of the top quark. In addition to high energy collider physics, Fermilab is also host to a number of smaller fixed target experiments and neutrino experiments, such as MiniBooNE (Mini Booster Neutrino Experiment), SciBooNE (SciBar Booster Neutrino Experiment) and MINOS (Main Injector Neutrino Oscillation Search). The MiniBooNE detector is a 40-foot (12-meter) diameter sphere which contains 800 tons of mineral oil lined with 1520 individual phototube detectors. An estimated 1 million neutrino events are recorded each year. SciBooNE is the newest neutrino experiment at Fermilab; it sits in the same neutrino beam as MiniBooNE but has fine-grained tracking capabilities. The MINOS experiment uses Fermilab's NuMI (Neutrinos at the Main Injector) beam, which is an intense beam of neutrinos that travels 735km through the Earth to the Soudan Mine in Minnesota.

In the public realm, Fermilab is host to many cultural events, not only public science lectures and symposia, but classical and contemporary music concerts, folk dancing and arts galleries, when the Homeland Security Advisory System permits. Currently the site is open to all visitors from dawn to dusk who present valid photo identification.

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012

Some cool digital picture frame images:

RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2012
digital picture frame
Homebase Teenage Cancer Trust Garden

Sponsored by Homebase
Designed by Joe Swift
Built by Willerby Landscapes

This garden has been inspired by the power of plants and natural forms in an urban and suburban environment. It is a dry, sustainable garden designed for exploration, revealing areas as you move through the space.

Four bold cedar wood frames create long views through the garden, whilst dividing the space into distinct yet visually-connected areas. Stone and wood are present in conventional garden features (stone paving, walling and seating), but are also used in more stylised features such as oversized horizontally-sliced boulders, a water feature and bespoke wooden sculptures to decorate and energise the design.

The Chelsea Flower Show has been held in the grounds of the Chelsea Hospital every year since 1913, apart from gaps during the two World Wars.
It used to be Britain’s largest flower show (it has now been overtaken by Hampton Court), but is still the most prestigious. From the beginning it has contained both nursery exhibits and model gardens. Every year there have been exhibits from foreign countries as well as from Britain.
It is the flower show most associated with the Royal family, who attend the opening day every year.

Whatever you love about gardening, there’s something for you at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
‘Fresh’ is a brand new area that includes modern, inventive gardens with new design ideas, along with tradestands offering ingenious new products.

The spring 2013 hackNY student hackathon brought in hundreds of students to Columbia University's Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science April 6-7 for 24 hours of creative collaborative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.

NYC Startups, selected by a student organizing committee, presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, after which students formed groups to work through the night implementing their own ideas for fresh hacks built on top of these APIs.

On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel featuring members of the NYC startup community, which selected the final winning teams.

Since April 2010, hackNY hosts student hackathons one each semester, as well as the hackNY Fellows program, a structured internship which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment: a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup in NYC.

To find out what you missed at the spring 2013 hackNY student hackathon please do see our HackerLeague event page and blog post announcing the winners.

Trazos, recuerdos, realidad,
observo un destino distante,
que un día veremos llegar,
lagrimas recorren nuestro inmenso mar,

y te lleve directamente a quien debes amar,

he ahí la opción,

He ahí la cuestión,
miedo y adiós,
valor y pasión,
cruel bifurcación.

BåTåLLå§ InTëRNå§...

Este poema es como una reflexión...

Cuan larga es la daga,
que clava la conciencia,
en su propia esencia.

Cuan cruel aquella pena,
que es victima
de su propia intriga.

Suicida es la lucha que te lleva,
contra el mundo y su luz lóbrega,
más muerta estas cuando pretendes,
declarar batalla a tu conciencia.
